Marketing Director

Phil Hammett

My main mission is to raise the profile and awareness of MPA in all sectors of UK Innovation. I’m lucky to work with a dynamic team of Marketers, so a key aspect of my role is shaping an exciting and creative environment so they can do their best work and build successful careers. With over 20 years in senior Technology and Marketing roles, I’ve worked towards a number of Leadership, Coaching, Project Management and Marketing qualifications. The most recent course I attended was a fascinating programme on developing and delivering Marketing Strategy from the HEC Business school in Paris. I see my role as helping to raise awareness of the importance of Innovation to the UK economy and improve our quality of life through technological developments. We’re working very hard to amplify not just the vision, but the tools every business can use to realise that vision.

My best experience at MPA so far…

I’ve only been an MPA’er for a short while, but it’s been jam packed with memorable professional and personal experiences. To launch our brand redesign and website on time against very tight deadlines has been a real highlight, especially watching the Marketing team develop new skills and experience along the way. Knowing we have even more innovative projects in the pipeline is exciting, so there are further “best experiences” to come.

Firming up a long-term commitment to support the Saints Foundation has been a real highlight. It’s a cause I’m very passionate about, and it was wonderful to see the idea shaped and made real by our Employee Council.

We have a very active social calendar also and the summer party this year was a real highlight – I think there were some decent dents left in the dancefloor!

Donkey from Shrek.

Favourite book / movie / play:

Tough one. I’m a non-fiction reader predominantly, but that’s a bit dull for a bio page, so I’d have to go with A farewell to Arms. I love Ernest Hemmingway’s style, and this book is powerful, rich and unconventional.

I could talk for ages about films, and while some Bond films (Goldfinger, Live and Let Die, Casino Royale, Skyfall) are on my favourite list, top accolade goes to The Shawshank Redemption.

I’ve just watched “Joker” however, which was incredible, and I need to watch again to see if it takes the top spot.

Hobbies and interests:

Anything outdoors!

I’m a big Rugby fan, not such a good coach, and an even worse player, so that’s my main passion! But I also love sliding down a mountain on skis or a board, surfing and Stand up Paddling.

I’m very keen to start Foil SUPing – look it up!
